Jim Harold and The Paranormal Podcast
I’ve mentioned Jim Harold and the Paranormal Podcast several times here at The Big Séance. It has played a big part in my paranormal “education” in the last several years. I love to listen to his podcasts driving to and from work. And… maybe I’m a nerd, but the opening theme music pumps me up and prepares me for the day. 🙂 I can proudly say I’ve listened to almost every episode! If you haven’t checked The Paranormal Podcast out, you totally should!

Jim Harold
Some of my favorite guests or authors on the program have been Annie Wilder, Maria DeSimone, Michelle Belanger, Lesley Pratt Bannatyne, and Rosemary Ellen Guiley, who was recently interviewed by Jim about her latest book. I’m ordering it as soon as I “publish” this post.
Ouija Gone Wild by Rosemary Ellen Guiley with Rick Fisher
From Guiley’s site:
For more than a century, simple divination devices called “talking boards” have captivated millions of people curious about contacting the spirit world. The most famous is the Ouija, whose trademarked name has become synonymous with all boards. Ouija messages have inspired writers, artists, and musicians, and have played a part in murder, suicide, possession, treasure hunting, marriage, divorce and bizarre behavior.Authors Rosemary Ellen Guiley and Rick Fisher provide a detailed examination of the Ouija. They debunk myths and discuss how horror films have influenced popular opinion.

Rosemary Ellen Guiley
I have to tell you (without going into a giant Ouija board post) that even though in the past I have resisted the urge to run out and get a Ouija board, I’ve always taken a strong NO OUIJA BOARD stance. After listening to her discuss the book, I wonder if this opinion is silly… especially having never used one. I like to consider myself a person who takes spirit communication and the study of it seriously. If this is the case, is it truly any different from experimenting with the spirit box or my clock radio… or even basic EVP research?
I’ve read quite a bit about the topic, but never an entire book devoted to it. While looking up sites to link in this post, I also realized that there are more books than I realized devoted solely on the topic of the Ouija. My “To Read” shelf may have just grown quite a bit.
Thoughts? Does anyone have any interesting Ouija board experiences?

Apparently the Shroud of Turin’s only documented history goes back to the 1300s, but it is thought to be centuries old and could quite possibly have the image of Jesus Christ, after crucifixion, somehow imprinted on it. The shroud, a linen cloth, has been scientifically tested so many times that you can get lost in the research listed on www.shroud.com. Looking at the pictures, it is hard to imagine that any centuries old piece of fabric would not eventually disintegrate after that much research and handling over the years.
This morning on the way to work I was listening to the most recent episode of my favorite podcast, Jim Harold’s Paranormal Podcast, and he was interviewing the author and journalist, Nigel Kerner. The podcast was not entirely devoted to the topic of the shroud. Most of the interview discusses 2012 and our souls. Honestly, I probably only understand 10% of what this man says. BUT… if you cruise through to about 30:00, for about 8 minutes you’ll hear Nigel discuss some of the most recent research that just blows my mind. I had chills in my car. Before this morning I knew of the Shroud of Turin and had only a basic understanding of it. I think I had seen a program on the history channel or something years ago. I feel like I need to learn more about this. There’s even a Shroud of Turin blog!
The Vatican Insider summarizes the scientific papers that Nigel was describing below.
ENEA, the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic
Development, has published a report on five years of experiments conducted in the ENEA center
of Frascati on the “shroud-like coloring of linen fabrics by far ultraviolet radiation.” “Simply put:
we tried to understand how the Shroud of Turin was imprinted by an image so special that it 2
constitutes its charm, and poses a great and very radical challenge, “to identify the physical and
chemical processes capable of generating a color similar to that of the image on the Shroud.”

Many experts describe synchronicity by saying it’s what happens when you think about a certain person and a moment later they call you on the phone. Or, you’re driving to work and you have the sudden urge to slow down and put your hands on 10 and 2, then suddenly you see a cop appear ahead of you… or more seriously, maybe your sudden alertness is followed by an almost accident. Ring a bell? Maybe, just maybe, you were thinking about Synchronicity before you found this post? Face it… you reading my blog was meant to be. 🙂
Many people would argue that this is just coincidence or an accident. Dr. Kirby Surprise tells us this is not true in his book Synchronicity: The Art Coincidence, Choice, and Unlocking Your Mind.
How many times growing up did someone tell you that anything was possible if you put your mind to it? Did you roll your eyes? Can we really change outcomes or events with thought alone?
From the author’s website…
- Learn to use your amazing ability to create synchronistic events.
- Discover how your mind creates the reality you experience.
- Unlock your brain’s vast resources of connectivity and creativity.
- Change from living as a separate being to living as a part of the unified whole.
Today I listened to Dr. Surprise being interviewed on my favorite podcast, Jim Harold’s The Paranormal Podcast. I’ve heard and read about synchronicity from various mediums and experts, but from what I heard today it seems like Dr. Surprise views things a bit differently than the average spiritualist or medium… or at least the ones I follow. He mentions being inspired by the psychiatrist Carl Jung, who was the first to propose the concept of synchronicity.
I haven’t read the book but I think I’m going to add it to my queue. Hopefully my head won’t explode… Wait! Thoughts… positive thoughts…
