ESP Trainer…

Yesterday I found a really interesting app for my iPhone after reading about it online. The ESP Trainer was developed at Stanford Research Institute under a NASA program by Russell Targ. According to ESPResearch.com, “We have found that people are able to improve their ESP scores by using a machine just like this and get in touch with the part of themselves that is psychic. This is often called a clairvoyant ability, and can enhance your life in many surprising ways.”

I downloaded this free app yesterday and have tried it a few times. It is definitely interesting. You can see from the screen shot from my phone above, that four squares (green, yellow, red, and blue) are constantly present. The idea is to use your psychic skills to determine which square “has a picture behind it”. Once you click a square, that is considered a trial. The app keeps track of the trials on the lower right hand of the screen. If the square you chose was not the square with the picture (chosen randomly), then the correct square flashes, letting you know that you were incorrect. If you choose the correct square, the picture (that seems to be different every time) will flash on your screen and then slowly fade out. The phone buzzes and plays a tone as well, but I’ve been playing on silent so as not to complete annoy those around me. The scale at the top of the app keeps track of the ones you guess correctly. At the end of 24 trials, it lets you know how much ESP ability you have. To start again, you must hit “reset”.

I must tell you, the highest score I got yesterday was an 8, and the app told me I had “some ESP present”, but when I got lower scores, it clearly avoided giving me false hope and just didn’t say anything. 🙂 I will also say I tended to get higher scores when I took my time and really focused. When I went faster my scores seemed to be lower. (Although, I just read a comment from a user who claims he got better scores the less thought he put into it.)

From what I’ve read on ESPResearch.com, apparently there are different levels that you can achieve, but obviously I have not accomplished that yet. What are your thoughts about this? Apparently people really have seen results and have improved their ESP or psychic ability using this app, or at least the program that is similar to this app (I’m not sure). My only concern is, how random is it? Is there ever a pattern that repeats? Is my brain just gradually picking up on a pattern? Maybe not. I’ll have to do more research. But hey, if NASA and Stanford says it works…

Do You Have a Plan for Afterlife Communication?

So this weekend, among other random things, I’ve worked on getting caught up in reading my Association TransCommunication News Journals. Reading one makes you realize just how many different kinds of ITC (Instrumental TransCommunication) research is happening all over the world. It also makes me realize that just like education, technology, and communication, spirit communication techniques are constantly changing. Like a doctor or a brain surgeon, any person studying spirit communication needs to stay informed on the latest news and techniques. Besides things like mediumship and standard EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) recording, people all over the world are getting spirit communication results through the use of radios, telephones, video, photography, voice mail, ouija boards, scrying through things like water and crystals, Morse code, and even dimes being dropped around the house. What is even more interesting is that more and more people are reporting having afterlife communication through things like Skype, e-mail, and text messages. It makes sense when you think about it. Some of us can’t pry our iPhones out of our hands on most days. So as more people who rely on these devices leave the physical, it makes sense that this would be a logical way for them to make contact. Think about it. Even though I get set in my ways, it really makes plain old EVP sound like old news, doesn’t it?  I have so much to learn still…

So, I’m curious. Lately I’ve heard from many people with stories of crossed over loved ones making contact or communicating from the other side. How many of you have an agreement with your loved ones on if and how you’ll make contact after you die? This is sometimes called After Death Communication (ADC). Anyone who knows me knows that I’m going to make contact however I can. I’ll be trying everything! Facebook, cell phones, lights, dishes, garage doors, toasters, pinching butts, etc. But… I’m going to place emphases on items that are on or near night stands.

What about you?

Analysis Timeline: Okay so maybe I am a little ridiculous…

Just some random thoughts tonight. In an earlier post, I had show-and-tell and shared with you a little of my process of putting together a rough analysis of a paranormal investigation. Well… I added a step and tried something new this time around. And I’m not going to lie… I’m kind of realizing how ridiculous I get sometimes. Sometimes I’m too OCD and detailed for my own good. This took me a few days. Helpful? Yes. But it took a lot of time… and so now I still have to finish up the evidence and final report. I’m not sure I’d be able to finish up an entire investigation, analysis, and report for a location on a time limit. 🙂 I need to hire assistance.

So I went from 19 pages of this (rough analysis)…

Same rough analysis from my recent post.

Same portion of a rough analysis from my recent post.

...and created 24 pages of this!

The new timeline analysis that I'm trying for the first time.

The new timeline analysis that I’m trying for the first time.

Everything from the rough analysis in a timeline. Now you can see all “events” from every area and piece of equipment in a timeline, so that one could compare the “events” that happen at roughly the same moment. Too much? Ah… maybe I’m just stalling because I know a lot of work is still ahead of me. Perhaps it’s like when I was growing up. I HATED homework and studying… but I LOVED office supply stores and playing school! 🙂

Back to work…

Putting Together a Rough Analysis of a Paranormal Investigation…

So honestly, I had no idea what to post or blabber on about today. In the last week I’ve been pushing hard trying to make some progress on the analysis of MOSS’s last paranormal investigation, so a lot of my focus has been in that world. So I kind of decided since my brain is there, I’ll blab about that and how I put together an analysis and report… that is, if anyone cares. 🙂

Norman and Cassie at work.

Norman and Cassie

This particular investigation was almost two months ago, so it has taken many weeks and hours of digging through, watching, listening, and comparing hours of footage and audio. We used 3 digital audio recorders, 3 camcorders, and 4 DVR cameras. I have 19 pages of data and analysis, which reads sort of like a transcript of the evening. As of right now I’ve finished my rough analysis of everything, with the exception of the 4 DVR videos. I always save those for last.

Below is a screen shot of a portion of that 19-page rough analysis. Initially, I begin with all of my audio recorders. I not only listen for EVP, but I document events as I hear them, including EMF readings, temperature readings, weird sounds, personal experiences, etc. And for all of these events, I time stamp them to the nearest minute, if at all possible. I also just recently began highlighting and color coding the time stamp for individual devices, so that I can easily refer to any file from that moment. This is probably what takes most of the time. I go through video the same way, simply adding to the same document in chronological order. You’ll notice that in one of the events that took place at 2:03am, I included text in bold and italic, explaining that I have found an explanation for that event. This often happens when I get to any of the video files and I can see exactly what is going on and compare.

Me. (Sometimes you just have to find a seat on the dusty floor.)

So this is where I am now. I haven’t saved any files or artifacts. I haven’t done a lot of enhancing audio. From here, I’ll save this analysis as a new file and dig deeper. Some things will disappear if they’ve been explained. I’ll summarize some of the redundant events, and figure out what events warrant becoming an “artifact” of paranormal or possible paranormal events. I number and code these artifacts and list them in this new document, which will end up being the final report for the client. I’ll add pre-investigation readings of each area (EMF, temperature, and barometric pressure), hour-by-hour weather information for that location, lunar and solar information from that date, and usually a short summary of my thoughts and findings.

Below is a small portion of the web version of a final report from a different investigation

So as you can see, this is why I have no life. Soon I hope to share some of the findings and details of the investigation. But for now, if you’re still reading, thanks for stopping by for show and tell. 🙂

Sony NightShot: A Call for Advice from Paranormal Investigators…

MOSS uses Sony DCR-TRV280 Handycam Camcorders with NightShot

MOSS uses Sony DCR-TRV280 Handycam Camcorders with NightShot

I’m going to break away from my typical post this evening, because I’m hoping I can get some advice from techie and/or paranormal investigators out there… or maybe even a super soccer mom who has mastered modern videography. When I formed Missouri Spirit Seekers in 2010, I scrounged up whatever equipment I could afford. I even spent a few tax refunds on some of the more expensive equipment. For the size of my group and the number of investigations we are involved in, the equipment that we have tends to be just right for us. I mean don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE a thermal imaging camera or a few of those fascinating rem-pods that are gaining popularity now. But really… my major concern currently is being stuck in the 1990s with our Sony NightShot camcorders. (Click HERE for an almost current look at our equipment.)

For years, paranormal investigators everywhere have used Sony’s line of NightShot IR (infra-red) technology. Obviously there are TV production quality night vision cameras out there, but not affordable for most groups. Several years ago Sony phased out NightShot, Super NightShot, NightShot Plus, etc. I always heard rumors as to why they did this, but I’m not sure if they were true. But after doing research, I found that the Sony DCR-TRV280 with NightShot was a pretty reliable and common camera available on Amazon and Ebay, etc. I bought two of them used (for probably way too much money) and one of them immediately malfunctioned several times and so we use it strictly as a charger. I have since ordered another one and so we have two that have been working fairly well for us. I like not having to learn how to use 14 different generations of cameras, so it’s important for us to use the same kind. They come with some problems, though. They are incredibly noisy. One of them has a consistent click about every 10 seconds. Also, in this day and age, working with tapes is an outdated inconvenience. Some investigators would tell me that it is irresponsible, but I re-use my 8mm cassette tapes. Not only are they nearly impossible to find anymore, but they’re expensive, and we go through 4 or 5 tapes in one investigation. It’s just not realistic right now to use them once and have that be it.

But after nervously buying used camcorders online and not knowing how well they’re going to work, I’ve been concerned with what the common paranormal investigator was going to use for night vision in the future. These cameras aren’t going to last forever. Not only that, but I had to have someone help me to make some considerable accommodations to my computer to be able to upload the video.  I’ll soon need a new computer. Will that computer have the capability to support these old cameras?

The newest non-night vision Sony camcorder that I own. Sony HDR-CX150

The newest non-night vision Sony camcorder that I own. Sony HDR-CX150

This last fall I went on a paranormal tour hosted by a local paranormal team (as I rolled my eyes), and the group members passed out a handful of newer Sony camcorders (nearly identical to the Sony HDR-CX150 Handycam Camcorder that I own) for tour goers to walk around with. Each camcorder had two smaller IR attachments, and in the dark these cameras had amazing IR technology. In my experience, IR attachments on camcorders that are not equipped with IR technology are worthless. So were these IR camcorders or just amazing attachments? I was not smart enough to take a picture of this camcorder and the attachments, or to sound like a nerd while asking the group leader about their cameras.

I will be completely honest and say that I haven’t really researched this situation in a year or so. It overwhelms me and I’m not a techie person at all. I do great with technology when I get used to it and learn to work with it. But… I don’t know what I’m looking for.

So here’s where I need help. What is out there now currently? What are you using? What do I need? What attachments and accessories are required? Someone help transport MOSS to the year 2013! 🙂

Peace Out!

Exciting News! Beyond the Scole Experiment!

The "Scole Hole"

The “Scole Hole”

A few days ago I got some exciting news through a comment right here at The Big Séance. Grant Solomon, one of the authors of The Scole Experiment: Scientific Evidence for Life After Death, informed me that the two mediums from the Scole Experiment were not only active again, but getting results. I was also informed that another book that follows the current experiment is in the works. How exciting is that?!

Grant suggested we all check out the following two sites (both on Facebook) to stay updated.

The Scole Experiment

Beyond the Scole Experiment

I’ve already found a ton of things there to keep me busy for a while.

Thank you, Mr. Solomon, for stopping by and keeping us informed!

Some of my favorite shots…

How about something different tonight. One of my favorite things to do while trying to stay sane during the hours and hours of reviewing investigations is to save video stills of everyone at work. Here are some of my favorites!

Probably my favorite “in action” shot. This is from Fort Chaffee Prison in the maximum security building.

Our bird friend that made our abandoned farmhouse investigation very interesting.

Looks like I’m posing and just being a nerd. However, this is actually a still from a camcorder at the very moment I was ducking to avoid our bird friend who was attempting to go through the doorway at the same time as me and my father.

This one is also from the abandoned farmhouse. I cannot believe I crawled down into that dark basement.

This is me investigating with Dar and her team (JPRS) at Fort Chaffee Prison.

Dar shares my obsession with capturing lots of cool looking video stills. This is a good one of her from my camcorder while she was conducting a spirit box session at Fort Chaffee Prison.

Medium Marilyn Painter at work in our joint investigation of a private residence.

My mom Linda and my sister Cassie at work during one of our undisclosed investigations.

I absolutely love this shot! This is Cassie and Bailey on one of our very first investigations. Friedens United Church of Christ in Saint Charles, Missouri.

A cool video still of Bailey investigating a private residence.

My father, Norman, during our investigation of an undisclosed museum.

This is Casey during her first investigation with MOSS.

Our team heading upstairs during our investigation of an undisclosed museum.

Another great shot of Casey.

A peak into command central at a private residence.

Not a video still, but a great memory. During our stay at the Stanley Hotel we were lucky enough to see snow when we woke up one morning.

The History Books: Is nothing happening? Or is it time for an update?

Bill O’Neil and Spiricom

In many of the books I read, authors discuss the major breakthroughs in paranormal research, specifically EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) and ITC (Instrumental Trans Communication). There is usually a rather large section devoted to crediting Friedrich Juergenson for discovering EVP, even though some would credit individuals from a decade or so before. They then move onto praising Konstantin Raudive for his work with the subject. I always get disappointed when there isn’t as much focus or credit given to Sarah Estep, but there’s almost always at least a statement about her founding the AA-EVP, which is now ATransC (Association TransCommunication). Often there are complete chapters devoted to developments in ITC and EVP from the 1970s and 80s. There was a lot going on. Since I was young, and since this topic wasn’t even on my radar during that time period, I can only imagine how exciting it was to be involved with groundbreaking developments like spiricom or communication with the Timestream group.

Maybe I’m reading the wrong books, or maybe they’re just all outdated, but with the possible exception of the Scole group’s work in the 1990s, the history books seem to mostly end the timeline at the end of the 1980s. Maybe they just ran out of room on the page? I’ve highlighted so many examples of spirit communication from spirit teams on the other side with prophesies of how great progress would be happening in the future, or about how communication with the other side would continue to improve. In some of these older books you almost get the picture that the author fully expected us to have access to an elevator that just takes us right to the other side for face to face communication by now. Surely with our iPhones and tablets we should have been able to just stop on the side of the road in the car, pull out the bag phone from under the seat, pull up the antenna, and place a call to our ancestors in 1995. What has really improved besides us walking around for a decade with spirit boxes and digital recorders? Where is Timestream now?

Obviously we’ve been experiencing a decade or more of the current great paranormal craze. There are amazing researchers and experimenters out there. There have been many improvements in technology since Juergenson. More and more people are becoming enlightened to spiritual and paranormal topics. So… where does all of this fit in the history books? Where is the chapter for 2000 and beyond… and who is in it? Will paranormal reality TV stars be the next names to go down in history?  (Am I still talking?)

Just a thought…

I am a Zombie… and other updates…

I… am a walking Zombie…

I will go ahead and apologize now to the people who found this post after typing “zombie” into a search engine. Stay for a while though… you might find a topic you like. 🙂

You may have noticed it has been a while since I’ve blogged. I went back to school on August 1st and the kids came back this last week. It has been a shock to my 3:30am bedtime summer mode body.

Plus, I’ve had two overnight investigations in the span of one week. After the last investigation on Friday night, I was really feeling it. It might be that I’m just officially old, but I’ve been a worthless zombie blob now for two days. I don’t know when to sleep and when to be awake. It’s the “Chinese Standard Time” that I often joke about… even though I honestly have no clue what time it is in China at this moment.

It is also in the last two days that I have realized how dangerously out of shape I am. Should a 34-year-old get seriously winded going up a flight of stairs?

So I’m pretty sure I have no spirits attached to me. I’m pretty sure no one is sucking energy from me like a vampire. It’s just the combination of everything above. That and maybe… just maybe… I’ve been attacked by a zombie… (Is that how it works? I don’t even get into that stuff. It’s a HUGE fad now. Have you noticed?)

Other Random Updates…

More about Friday night’s investigation

Friday night’s investigation at a private residence was so very interesting. It was a huge learning experience. As an investigator, I was by myself… but for the first time I had the pleasure of working with a medium who is also a good friend. The family was present and it was just a really neat evening.

Astrology and recent technology issues

Anyone else having an unusual amount of technology issues recently? I sure did this week. It made me think back to a few weeks ago when I listened to a podcast that was interviewing an astrologer. She was talking about a period of time when people tend to have lots of technology issues. I wondered if I was in that window. I asked a fellow blogger, Andrea Elliot at HolisticWords.com, and here was her response:

“Yes, it is happening to a lot of people, attributed to the moon cycles and the fact we have 2 full moons this month plus the meteor shower.

A great deal of magnetic and electrical forces at work at the moment which is causing angst and upset (both mechanically and mentally) but also a unyielding need for action and inspiration – which can come out as frustration.

So don’t worry you are not alone.”

Good to know! (By the way… it took me about 5 minutes to get the above quote to be that color because it wouldn’t format. Hmmm…)

Till next time, everyone… Peace!

Conversations Beyond the Light

I just finished Conversations Beyond the Light: with Departed Friends & Colleagues by Electronic Means by Dr. Pat Kubis and Mark Macy (1995). Rather than write a review, I decided to post a few videos.

This first video is by Mark Macy, who is one of the authors and a pioneer of ITC (Instrumental Transcommunication) research, and is the founder of World ITC.  In this video, Mark discusses the research of George Meek, another very important pioneer in ITC research who crossed over in 1999.

The next video is mainly for the audio, and the description below is from the World ITC website. The book discusses this historical moment of spirit communication.

On January 27, 1994, the telephone rang in George Meek’s office, and once again George Meek made history. It was the late ITC pioneer Konstantin Raudive on the phone, and it was the second spirit phone call ever placed to an American ITC researcher.

G Meek: Good morning, this is George Meek.

K Raudive: This is Konstantin Raudive. George, my friend, at last we succeeded in contacting you. Jeannette is beside me, and she wants to give you all her love. This is Konstantin Raudive. This is the first contact you get from us. I suppose that you can hear me?

G Meek: I can hear you very well. Very plainly.

K Raudive: Fine! So, this is the beginning of a new story, a new chapter, George. You are a very good friend of ours, even if we haven’t met. We will continue this. This is the first bridge we have succeeded to build to the States. Mark was contacted, and I must interrupt now.
