The UpStairs Lounge: 40 years ago today…

A wonderful article was written today by Terry Firma at The Friendly Atheist, in remembrance of the largest LGBT massacre in the US. This month I’ve been so wound up waiting to hear the ruling on DOMA. Every week that goes by without a ruling, I get so frustrated. Is it really that difficult of a decision for them? Then suddenly this article reminds me that there was a time when you truly had to hide if you were gay… you had to be embarrassed and ashamed, you had to live scared, and apparently in 1973, only five years before I was born, someone could murder 32 beautiful souls, most of whom were gay, and ehh… it’s not a big deal. The crime has never been solved.

Chances are you didn’t know about all of this, right? Well here’s where the paranormal relevance comes in. As I mentioned in my comment on this article, I am incredibly embarrassed, frustrated, and saddened that I had never heard of this horrific moment in history until last year. It took a Ghost Hunters episode to bring it to my attention… and it was a fantastic episode. I was so moved I cried.

I encourage you to read the article, and be sure to check out the trailer for the documentary that is mentioned. I hope to find it and see it soon. Also, there is great information at The Tragedy of the UpStairs Lounge, at TheJimani.com, a site for the current bar that is in business on the main floor of the same building.

I hope you’ll forgive me, because in many ways this topic is near and dear to my heart. Please share one of these sites. Share in honor of those who lost their lives, many of whom were not memorialized because their families were too embarrassed or ashamed. Times have changed. People need to know the story.

Peace!

Patrick

Human Collective, Gandhi, & Angelic Realm Séance

Below is a guest post by medium, Marilyn Painter, that I am excited to present to you. See my last post for an introduction. Also, I encourage you to check out her Complete Data Comparison Grids linked in the post. Enjoy!

Medium, Marilyn Painter, during our second séance.

The primary reason why most conduct a séance is to receive physical concrete evidence that spirit exists, is with us, and can communicate to us. Usually we hope to hear an audible voice, an out of the ordinary knock or sound, see an object move, or an apparition. However, when we have predetermined expectations or limitations on what we would consider evidence, we could miss a profound display of evidence that is grander than any of our conceptions.

On Saturday, September 29, 2012, Patrick Keller, founder of Missouri Spirit Seekers Paranormal Investigators, a male and female sitter, and me conducted a séance at Ahtah Sanctuary Holistic Center. During this séance, one at a time, we called upon the Divine Consciousness of Humanity, divine spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, and finally the Angelic Realm. Our intention was; if it is in divine will, to bring forth, here and now, physical evidence of their existence and any messages they felt beneficial.

As I set to organize my thoughts to write this post, I was guided by spirit to recall the last message received that came from communications in the Angelic Realm at this Séance, “But it kept saying and showing me the eye is very important… “to see through” … I couldn’t get it all. There’s something very strong about the eye and the deep seat of the soul.” At the time of the Séance, I didn’t understand the message “to see through/eye/deep seat of the soul”.  But I get it now!!!   Bypass the physical eye for evidence that spirit exists, is with us, and can communicate with us. Enter into the spiritual eye of the soul. What I know through experience, spirit communicates energetically in frequencies. The spiritual eye of the soul entails clairvoyance, claircognizance, clairaudience, clairsentience etc.

When I do soul readings for people or readings for those who want to hear from a loved one in spirit, most all are hoping there is some information revealed about them or the loved one that they know and I couldn’t know for evidence that spirit is communicating to them through me.  Validation of a reality or experience grows solid when more than one has a similar knowing, reality or experience. Therefore, validation of spirit communication during Séance 2 is stronger if two or more have related experiences during communication efforts. In keeping with the guidance of the Angelic Realm, I bypassed physical evidence and looked into similarities in Spiritual Eye of the Soul experiences.

Patrick Keller sent me a transcript of the audio recordings from Séance 2. I compared all of the sitters’ descriptions of their sensory experiences during all three communications of Séance 2. Even though the mediumship skill levels of 3 out of the 4 sitters ranged from none to minimal experience, there was evidence of two or more related experiences during all 3 communication efforts, especially during communications with Mahatma Gandhi.

The following are excerpts from the Séance 2 transcript that demonstrate similar knowing and experiences among the sitters during Séance 2 communication efforts. Click for: Complete Data Comparison Grids

Collective Human Consciousness

Marilyn:  “When the Spirit Box was turned on, Marilyn said she continued to hear it (high pitched frequency) more amplified and it was longer strands, almost like Morse code or a signal.”

*(Note: Marilyn can hear the sounds of energy with her physical hearing mechanisms.)

Sitter 2: “Feeling a surge of energy when the Spirit Box was turned on.”

Mahatma Gandhi

Marilyn: “His energy very, very strong and I see him as a white light. Beautiful, beautiful white light… pure… beautiful.”

“The energy was so big, a bright white light

Patrick: “Mentioned in a vision, he was looking up to see the bright sky while under water.”

Marilyn: “and then it became like a full moon. Then she felt night time.”

Patrick:  “At one point I was seeing faces… fading in from the dark… face after face, seeing all of the features.”

Sitter 1: “Feeling like it got darker or feeling darkness.”

Sitter 2: “Feeling like it got darker or feeling darkness.”

Marilyn: “Gandhi came to her in human form but then switched to a pure energy form.”

Patrick: “At one point I was seeing faces… fading in from the dark… face after face, seeing all of the features.”

Marilyn: “Reported feeling heavier, specifically in the shoulders.”

Patrick: Mentioned getting tingly and itchy around the throat.

*(tingly with itchy is a heavy type of feeling and the throat is on the same plane as shoulders)

Sitter 1: Reported feeling heavier, specifically in the shoulders.

Marilyn: “I saw flooding and the earth around to where it created islands, so to speak, or separation.”

Patrick: “Mentioned having visions of being underwater (like the ocean… deep greenish aqua color) and looking up to see the bright sky while under water. This was right before Marilyn mentioned flooding.”

Angelic Realm

Marilyn: “Marilyn said a lot of what she was feeling was in the head and the crown. It was good… not a heavy energy.

Sitter 1: “Said she just experienced a lighter feeling.”

Marilyn: “I saw that white light, and a little bit of the blue… it was really crystally”

“As I was traveling and flying really quickly toward this bright white light…”

Sitter 1: “Said they were seeing white light come over here and then it seemed like it was kind of illuminating

It illuminated… like it was starting to spread out.”

Sony PX-720 Digital Audio Recorder (placed behind Marilyn’s chair)

Sony PX-820 Digital Audio Recorder (placed on the center table)

From 1:47:55 – 1:48:13 in PX-820, I (Patrick) feel as if I hear several messages requesting us to “leave”, “leave, please”, or “leave us.” “I can possibly hear some “leaves” in the next rotation as well.”

1:48:46 in PX-820, “(Patrick) something interesting that I can’t make out. Almost sounds like “Rachel” to me. (Marilyn, in response to Patrick’s notes in his transcript) Could it be, “Raphael”, as in Arch Angel Raphael, “Patron of Travelers” who helps with inward spiritual journeys, assisting in searches for truth and guidance?)

Marilyn: “It was a long journey, traveling to their place.”

Had to travel quite far to get to them. The other ones; they just kind of came here. So I felt like I traveled to where they were at.”

“Then all of a sudden I saw this white circle… it was like I was flying through the clouds and it was kind of powder blue like I was a bird… like with angel wings. And it (possibly archangel Raphael) was taking me there.”

1:47:55 – 1:48:13 in PX-820, (Patrick) “I could also interpret one of them as a “stay”.”

Patrick: “Said he was not as focused this time around.”

Sitter 2: No input; tired perhaps.

(This may be why spirit communicated “stay”. They were not in the energy to “leave/travel”.)

**The following physical data was obtained and noted in the transcripts by Patrick Keller:

During the Mahatma Gandhi portion of the Séance

56:35 in PX-720, 56:59 in PX-820 – Some kind of bell or chime or clang sound in the background. Much louder in the PX-720.

1:00:47 in PX-720, 1:01:11 in PX-820 – Same bell/chime/clang sound. And again, it was picked up louder in the PX-720.

1:13:38 in PX-720, Sounds like possibly the quick squeal of the **Trifield Meter. Not picked up in the PX-820. (Trifield was right next to the PX-820)

Trifield Meter (left) and Mel Meter (right) with temperature and EMF readings.

**Patrick here… since this transcript and analysis of the audio was typed up, I have completed all video analysis. The camcorder focused on the Trifield meter showed that there were never any readings, and the squeal/alarm never sounded. It is unclear what was making this noise.

1:15:15 in PX-720, Another squeal of the Trifield meter? Not picked up in the PX-820. (Trifield was right next to the PX-820)

1:19:00 in PX-720, Another one again? Not picked up in the PX-820. (Trifield was right next to the PX-820)

1:22:12 in PX-720, Another squeal of the Trifield meter? Not picked up in the PX-820. (Trifield was right next to the PX-820)

End of Angelic Realm portion of the Séance

1:52:47 in PX-720, 1:53:11 in PX-820 – More Trifield sounding noise. Could these noises possibly be a squeak of Marilyn’s chair since the recorder is right behind it? I can hear it softly in the distance in the PX-820. But the Trifield was right next to the PX-820 so I know that’s not what it was.

I (Marilyn) don’t believe the quick squeal noise came from my chair. The chair I was in is a wing-back chair of solid wood and very fluffy cushion. I have never heard it squeak. If it was from the squeak of my chair, I then wonder why my chair squeaked every less than 5 minutes only during the Mahatma Gandhi portion of the Séance (except a final squeak right as we concluded the Séance but different in that both PX-720 and PX-820 picked it up)?

When I am in a trance, conducting mediumship, I feel Spirit communication energy/ frequency come through my back at the spine and also the back top of my head like a current. The PX-720 was on a table closely and directly behind my back where this energy comes through. The squeal noise could be the sound of this energy coming through.  When the sound was picked up in both PX-720 and PX-820 at the conclusion of the Angelic Realm communications, the PX-820 could have picked up the sound of this spiritual energy because the communication energy was quite expanded at the time, and not during communications of Angelic Realm because my spirit left the room and traveled there and received communications there.

Overall, I am ecstatic with the results and experience of this Séance. Thank you Patrick Keller and the Missouri Spirit Seekers Paranormal Investigators for this amazing opportunity.

See through the physical eye and experience with the Eye of the Soul.

Yesterday’s Moment…

Yesterday was an unusual day for me. I was not feeling well, having come down with what everyone else has gotten at some point recently at our school. Because of there being a shortage of substitute teachers, I was forced to fight my way through the day at school. I was a bit of a whiner, making sure to warn the kids so they knew to be on their best behavior, and to let them know not to get too close to me.

In one of those stressful passing period moments that are all too common in my job, a student shared that they needed to talk to me in private. They shared with me something so brave and honest that I nearly cried right there. In the back of my mind I knew that this was one of those “moments”. One of those moments where you only have one chance to have the right response and really be there and present for the kid. I did my best. And when the discussion was over I suddenly didn’t have much to complain about.

I began my next class with probably more of a smile, reminding myself that you truly never know what’s going on with your students, especially in middle school, and especially when you see so many of them in your day. Moments like these, I reminded myself, are why I do what I do. It’s not the curriculum, not the testing, not the very short summers. I’m there for the kids.

I began wondering if my “moment” of the day had been arranged in some master plan. Was I supposed to be there? What if I would have stayed home? Did i really help?

Then it was time for lunch. I joined a group of teachers that I don’t usually eat with. Someone walked in and broke the news about the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Just about everyone has had their emotional Facebook or Twitter statement regarding yesterday’s events. Many of them asked the question “why?”, and some even questioned their faith. Many statements gave credit to evil or the Devil himself. As someone who has been very honest and open about the fact that I don’t believe there is a “Devil”, I couldn’t stop wondering why something like this would happen. Are disgusting, heart wrenching events like this truly in some master plan? Or is it just flawed humans bouncing around on the planet with free will?

I can’t even begin to understand what is going on inside the hearts and minds of those Connecticut children and families involved in yesterday’s tragedy. And people are mourning all over the world, really. Talk about a “moment”.

One thing is for sure. When someone asks me where I was when I found out about the events at Sandy Hook Elementary (and it’s already happened once), I’ll be able to tell them that I was at school, not feeling well, but yet learning a big lesson about empathy and compassion.

After Tragedy: an author on “healthy shame”…

Yesterday I struggled to pull myself from the cable news coverage of the tragic and senseless killings in Aurora, Colorado. The day was pretty much a wash since I couldn’t get all the sadness out of my head. I could have walked away… and I tried. I spent some time out in the absolutely beautiful weather that we experienced here in my part of Missouri. I even tried a meditation. I struggled to clear my head and ended up right back in front of the TV for most of the day. I don’t live in the Aurora area, and to my knowledge I knew none of the victims or their families, but I was really affected by it all.

I follow the author Karla McLaren on Facebook and I’ve mentioned her here a few times. Among other things, she writes about and discusses empathy and the language of emotions. In short, she often speaks of how important emotions are when they happen. For part of yesterday, I told myself that it was okay that I spent so much time dwelling on the tragedy, even though most people would probably think it wasn’t healthy. Maybe it was something I was meant to be feeling at the moment.

Then, Karla posted the following on her Facebook page.

As we read of yet another gun tragedy and send blessings to the victims, survivors, and the city of Aurora, I’m thinking so much of the vital, irreplaceable work of healthy shame.

In explosive violence, we can all see the panic and rage — out of control, brutal — but what I see more strongly is the absence of healthy shame, which helps people moderate their behavior.

So many of us learned about shame by *being* shamed — but that’s not how shame works in a healthy psyche. In fact, an overly shaming environment can actually create the kind of explosive violence we see in these sorts of tragedies. When people can’t access their own healthy, authentic, intrinsic shame, their behavior often goes off the rails.

Bullying, abuse, and violence — all are clear signs of serious shame impairment. Healthy and appropriate shame is an absolutely irreplaceable emotion that reduces violence and helps us become better people.

Today, along with feeling sadness and grief, I bow to healthy shame as the necessary emotion in this and so many other painful situations. Blessings to us all.

– Karla McLaren

I must admit that I don’t get it exactly. I think I need some explanation. Any thoughts?

Peace!

UPDATE:

So it’s 20 minutes after I posted this. I’ve read it over a few more times and followed some of the commentary on her facebook page. I think I understand better now. I initially thought she meant this as some sort of coping thing for the rest of us… which I didn’t get. But I think she is just saying we should be really happy that “healthy shame” exists because it keeps us from getting into trouble and doing bad things. And be happy you have it, because apparently this guy is missing that skill or part of the brain. Am I there? Maybe? I don’t know.
