Introducing the artsy-fartsy photos from my weekend at Belvoir Winery, formerly the Odd Fellows Home, in Liberty, Missouri. These photos can also be found on my Flickr page.

Belvoir Winery, a former orphanage, hospital, nursing home, and school, was featured on Season 9, Episode 10 of SYFY’s Ghost Hunters, and titled “Vintage Spirits”. For more information about Belvoir Winery and its history, visit their site at BelvoirWinery.com.

Yesterday I accompanied Joe to a get together at a work friend’s home in beautiful and secluded Bellflower, Missouri. It was our first trip to this part of the world. Bellflower isn’t large in area and is truly in the middle of nowhere, seemingly consisting of mostly farms and gravel roads. The population is less than 400. Though that’s a very small population, I’m not sure where all those residents were, because turning from one long gravel road to another, we never met another human being until we reached our destination. As we were leaving, I asked our hosts if we’d find an old cemetery nearby, and fortunately the Bellflower Baptist Cemetery, established in 1841, was fairly close.

There aren’t too many times you’ll get me laying down on the ground with nature crawling all over, but for a great photographic shot in a cemetery, I don’t even think twice.

Greetings! Here is Part 2 of my pictorial tour of Alton, Illinois. Be sure to check out Part 1 for more sites and photos, as well as information on our day trip to Alton.

Such a beautiful view of the Mississippi River.

Another view of the mighty Mississippi.

The infamous, but not to be messed with (we had to take the pics while flying down the road) McPike Mansion.

The Piasa Bird.

The historic ruins of the Alton Military Prison walls.

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about a trip I took with a buddy of mine to The Milton Schoolhouse in Alton, Illinois. Visiting that schoolhouse was just a small part of that very memorable visit to Alton three years ago. Since this blog did not exist then, and since I’ve enjoyed my own tour down memory lane, please enjoy some photos from several of the sites on our trip from October 2010. I did my best to include accurate and up-to-date information about each location. CLICK HERE for Part 2!
Mineral Springs Hotel
This hotel, now a mall, was completed in 1914 and contained a very popular mineral pool in the lower level.

The Hotel Stratford
The original purpose of this building, completed in 1819, is apparently unknown, but in 1909 became the Hotel Stratford. At one time it was known for lavish events involving high society, and Hollywood even used it in the filming of The Big Brass Ring from 1999. It apparently still housed guests up until 2011, though only on one level, as the rest of the building is apparently falling into disrepair. See this newspaper article for a better shot of the front of the building.

Enos Sanatorium
I was obsessed with this building and took tons of photographs. I particularly fell in love with the side of the building with the bumped out windows (seen in the second photo below). It was built in 1857 as a mansion, and was specifically designed to be a stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1911 it was turned into a Tuberculosis Sanatorium, and three years later the roof was literally raised and the fourth floor was added. The cupola, used to signal slaves coming from across the river, is apparently still original to the building, though the fourth floor beneath it is newer. It now serves residents as an apartment building and is rumored to be very haunted. I’d love for one of these residents to let me in for some photos and an EVP session. Pretty please?!

Grand Theater
This movie theater opened for the first time in 1920, but has been vacant and unchanged since 1977.

Kendall’s Cracker Factory
I didn’t know much about the building at the time, but fell in love with its style. As you can see, even though from through the front windows the interior was looking pretty rough, there are plenty of beautiful artifacts still standing, like the decorative glass windows in a few of the photos below. For a history of this building, check out this newspaper article.

And no, that’s not a ghostly mist. This was taken through a window.

Again, not a ghostly mist.
Alton Cemetery
This cemetery is huge and beautiful. I wish I would have taken more photos.

I have been so excited to share this post with you. A few days ago I was on my way back home from a Kansas City trip and I decided to take one of the Boonville exits off of Interstate 70. I’ve driven past the area so many times over the years, and except for a nighttime detour from construction on the highway a while back, I’d never really toured the historical river town. This time around I’d take my time and look for a cemetery. It took a while, but I found one… and what I find it was! This cemetery just may have made its way to my top two or three favorite cemeteries. I hope to visit again this fall to capture the colors and the trees at their most beautiful. As you’ll see from the photos, someone has been doing a wonderful job taking care of, protecting, and preserving this beautiful park-like cemetery. Kudos to them. Please enjoy this tour through Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville, Missouri.

This may seem a bit off topic, but these historic theatres are just so mysteriously beautiful to me. Built and designed in what has been called “Siamese Byzantine” style, The Fox Theatre in St. Louis is one of my current obsessions. I’ve taken so many pictures on each visit that I had a very hard time narrowing them down for this post. Like most theatres of its kind, the Fox Theatre was originally built as a movie palace in 1929… for “talkies”. It sat vacant and forgotten for several years and then in the 80s it was purchased and a $2 million renovation brought this beauty back to life. It has seen the biggest stars, and each year serves as temporary home to national tours of Broadway productions and concerts. There’s really no theatre like it! But wait! There actually is a paranormal element to this post. The Fox Theatre is supposedly home to two ghosts. I haven’t met them, but I hope to… someday.

Not a great picture… but I couldn’t NOT show you these amazing ticket booths.

The lobby during the holidays.

Ceiling in the lobby.

Lobby. And at the top of those stairs is a restaurant for the big spenders. (Totally reminds me of the Harmonia Gardens in Hello Dolly.)

Restaurant in the lobby.

This hangs above the restaurant at the top of the lobby stairs.

Just one of the traditional “ghost lights” at the Fox Theatre.

Took a ride in this old elevator. I think it’s beautiful!

Inside the theatre (obviously).

Entrance to the backstage area.

One of the many hallways underneath the theatre.

Some of the original projection equipment outside of the screening room in the basement (next picture).

The screening room in the basement of the theatre.

Can you believe this is just one of the men’s rooms? Of course then it would have been called a “smoking lounge”. I love the floor and the blue on the walls.

Old phone booths in the men’s room.

How about something different tonight. One of my favorite things to do while trying to stay sane during the hours and hours of reviewing investigations is to save video stills of everyone at work. Here are some of my favorites!

Probably my favorite “in action” shot. This is from Fort Chaffee Prison in the maximum security building.

Our bird friend that made our abandoned farmhouse investigation very interesting.

Looks like I’m posing and just being a nerd. However, this is actually a still from a camcorder at the very moment I was ducking to avoid our bird friend who was attempting to go through the doorway at the same time as me and my father.

This one is also from the abandoned farmhouse. I cannot believe I crawled down into that dark basement.

This is me investigating with Dar and her team (JPRS) at Fort Chaffee Prison.

Dar shares my obsession with capturing lots of cool looking video stills. This is a good one of her from my camcorder while she was conducting a spirit box session at Fort Chaffee Prison.

Medium Marilyn Painter at work in our joint investigation of a private residence.

My mom Linda and my sister Cassie at work during one of our undisclosed investigations.

I absolutely love this shot! This is Cassie and Bailey on one of our very first investigations. Friedens United Church of Christ in Saint Charles, Missouri.

A cool video still of Bailey investigating a private residence.

My father, Norman, during our investigation of an undisclosed museum.

This is Casey during her first investigation with MOSS.

Our team heading upstairs during our investigation of an undisclosed museum.

Another great shot of Casey.

Investigation of a private residence.

Investigation of a private residence.

A peak into command central at a private residence.

Not a video still, but a great memory. During our stay at the Stanley Hotel we were lucky enough to see snow when we woke up one morning.
