Energy Formulas and some thoughts on “My Son and the Afterlife”

One of the books I’ve been reading this summer is My Son and the Afterlife: Conversations from the Other Side by Elisa Medhus, MD. If you’ve ever visited ChannelingErik.com, that’s Elisa. Much of the book comes from the site, which she started not only to work through her grieving, but to serve as a place to share the channeled messages that she received from her son Erik, who committed suicide in 2009. These channeled messages come mostly from Erik’s spirit communicator (medium), Jamie Butler

I was introduced to ChannelingErik.com two or three years ago, and was immediately blown away and overwhelmed with the wealth of information and transcribed sessions between Elisa, Jamie, and Erik. In fact, one of my very first blog posts featured the site. For many, the site is controversial, and you’ll find several sites expressing skeptical opinions about it all. Elisa herself claims to have gone from skeptic to believer because of this whole journey. If you know me, you know I can’t NOT doubt a bit when I read things like this, but who wouldn’t want this to be authentic and real? I do my best to keep my ego and somewhat analytical mind in the corner while I read his messages, and I find them fascinating!

As I said, the blog itself is a bit overwhelming… and that’s perhaps why I haven’t been a regular reader in a long time. But I’ve really enjoyed the book so far. Having it all organized in book form has really been helpful to me. After giving some background and describing the tragic moments that changed the family’s life forever, Elisa goes right into what I can only assume is a kind of “best of” from Erik. At the moment I’m only halfway through the book, but so far Erik has given answers to most of the typical questions that people wonder about the Afterlife.

“Energy Formulas”

I don’t know why this fascinated me so much, but I immediately thought to blog on it when I read it. It’s so simple, really.

Elisa asked Erik how it was possible for him, or spirits in general I suppose, to create smells, good or bad, so that we on Earth notice or sense them. Erik has been known to be a jokester, and so he apparently will often create “rank sock smells”, for example.

He answered by saying “everything has an energy formula on Earth, so I just replicate that energy formula, and I put it in that space.” So stop to think about the energy formula that your perfume or cologne is made up of, or even something we see as solid, like your desk or coffee cup. He says that what we end up sensing or smelling doesn’t actually exist. It’s just the energy formula that we’re sensing.

And do you know what I instantly thought of? It made me think of binary code, or the 1s and 0s used in computer programming, and even the recording of CDs. When would I ever think about or even try to understand binary code? A recording in a .wav or mp3 file, or from a CD playing, can potentially put me in a kind of euphoric state, or make me cry, or transport me to another world. The music and the orchestra isn’t sitting here in my room or living in my headphones, but the code is. So when I stop to think about it now, I totally get it. I mean, I don’t think it’s a concept that we’ll ever completely understand until we get such knowledge and experience on the Other Side, but I’m beginning to process it.

Isn’t it fascinating?

Whether you choose to believe all of this or not, isn’t it truly fascinating when you think about it? Or… am I just a nerd? One of my earliest readers and blogging friends, Ashley, knows a lot about Erik and the CE site, and she created the Facebook group for fans and readers of ChannelingErik.com. I hope she chimes in!  *HINT HINT*

A Message for Erik

This message is for Erik, if he’s reading. I know you’ve been known to visit and play tricks on many of the visitors and readers of ChannelingErik.com. I’ve made the request before, but I’m sure you’re busy. Consider this a formal invitation to bug the hell out of me for experimental purposes! Bring it. And I’ll keep everyone posted.

Peace!

Best and Reputable Psychic Mediums: Leave a recommendation or testimonial

Have you been to a psychic or medium recently? Are you seeing validations left and right? Have you found someone with such a gift that you have little doubt in their ability? Does this person deserve some kudos or perhaps a testimonial?

Would anyone find it useful if we compiled a list of recommended and reputable psychics/mediums that you have had personal experience with?

My suggestion would be to leave the person’s name or business, the general geographic area, and a website (if available) in the comment section below. I’ve decided that for this post I will only accept positive comments and recommendations. Also, in order to protect the privacy of those individuals, I will not publish phone numbers or personal e-mails. Several of my readers are of the psychic variety, so shameless, self-promotion is welcome.

Remember:

  • Recommendations/Testimonials

  • General geographic area

  • Website (if available)

  • Positive Only

  • No personal phone numbers, or e-mail.

Let’s get this list started. Maybe we’ll create a great resource! I’ll go first!

My recommendation: Marilyn Painter, Psychic Medium and Spiritual Counselor, Ahtah Sanctuary, St. Louis MO area. Testimonial: I have learned so much in my readings and classes with Marilyn. My experiences with Ahtah Sanctuary have truly changed my life! I want to encourage anyone who feels they are ready to open themselves up for more love and light to make an appointment or sign up for a class today! Thank you, Marilyn!

Messages: Signs, Visits, and Premonitions from Loved Ones Lost on 9/11

I’m here to tell you that if you’re checking out this blog, chances are you will absolutely love this book! I’m not even finished with it and I’m totally ready to recommend it. I’m not ashamed to admit that I often fall for book covers, and this one is beautiful, but all I needed was the title this time. And then when I saw the quote by James Van Praagh, I knew for sure that this book would be rushed to my doorstep in two days time.

The author, Bonnie McEneaney, lost her husband in the events on 9/11. Years later, after getting to know other folks who lost loved ones on the same day, she realized that there were so many beautiful examples and stories of loved ones leaving signs, messages, etc. I am so happy that Bonnie put the work and effort into collecting these stories for a book.

Sure, you’ll be touched by the feelings of great loss, but you won’t be dragged through the events of the tragic day. The awesome part is that every single story (and there are so many!) leaves you with the same feel-good confidence that our loved ones are still with us when they leave the physical.

Click HERE for an excerpt of Messages: Signs, Visits, and Premonitions from Loved Ones Lost on 9/11 by Bonnie McEneaney.

Here’s a book description.

Bonnie with her husband, Eamon, who was killed in the World Trade Center on 9/11/01.

Bonnie with her husband, Eamon, who was killed in the World Trade Center on 9/11/01.

When Bonnie McEneaney’s husband, Eamon, died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, she thought she had lost him forever. And then something unexpected happened that would shake her to the core and reassure her that her husband was still with her. As Bonnie reveals in this groundbreaking book, she began to have experiences that convinced her that her husband, in spirit, was sending her signs, indeed messages, that he was still present and watching over his family.

A mother and former business executive, Bonnie was always the rational one, and quite skeptical of the spiritual world and all that it represents, but after talking to a number of other families and friends of loved ones lost on 9/11, she realized she was not alone.

Numerous others connected to the tragedy—from financial executives to stay-at-home moms—described their own experiences: premonitions, signs, dreams, visitations, and communications through mediums and psychics. Bonnie began recording their compelling stories in a groundbreaking four-year-long project, illuminating the power of love and the unbreakable bond love creates.

Now, in Messages, she shares these miraculous spiritual stories while weaving in her own heartfelt message of comfort and hope for all those who are searching for their own deeper connections, proving that love and relationships can continue after death.

Do You Have a Plan for Afterlife Communication?

Do You Have a Plan for Afterlife Communication?

So this weekend, among other random things, I’ve worked on getting caught up in reading my Association TransCommunication News Journals. Reading one makes you realize just how many different kinds of ITC (Instrumental TransCommunication) research is happening all over the world. It also makes me realize that just like education, technology, and communication, spirit communication techniques are constantly changing. Like a doctor or a brain surgeon, any person studying spirit communication needs to stay informed on the latest news and techniques. Besides things like mediumship and standard EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) recording, people all over the world are getting spirit communication results through the use of radios, telephones, video, photography, voice mail, ouija boards, scrying through things like water and crystals, Morse code, and even dimes being dropped around the house. What is even more interesting is that more and more people are reporting having afterlife communication through things like Skype, e-mail, and text messages. It makes sense when you think about it. Some of us can’t pry our iPhones out of our hands on most days. So as more people who rely on these devices leave the physical, it makes sense that this would be a logical way for them to make contact. Think about it. Even though I get set in my ways, it really makes plain old EVP sound like old news, doesn’t it?  I have so much to learn still…

So, I’m curious. Lately I’ve heard from many people with stories of crossed over loved ones making contact or communicating from the other side. How many of you have an agreement with your loved ones on if and how you’ll make contact after you die? This is sometimes called After Death Communication (ADC). Anyone who knows me knows that I’m going to make contact however I can. I’ll be trying everything! Facebook, cell phones, lights, dishes, garage doors, toasters, pinching butts, etc. But… I’m going to place emphases on items that are on or near night stands.

What about you?

An Afterlife Visitation…

I am just about finished with Heavenly Hugs: Comfort, Support, and Hope From the Afterlife by Carla Wills-Brandon, PhD. The author mostly discusses and tells stories of Departing Visions, which are often witnessed when a person is close to death (usually within hours). A common example of this would be when the dying person sees a long dead relative and begins speaking to them. Many believe these visitors are there to comfort the dying or even to help them cross over.

But a portion of this book also discusses Afterlife Visitations, and so today I feel inspired to share an experience that my father has talked about many times.

Grandpa Keller holding my dad as a baby.

Grandpa Keller holding my dad as a baby.

When I was very little, my dad used to go to work with my Grandpa Keller for a while, and grandpa would come by our house at around 2:30 or 3 in the morning to pick him up. My dad says that you could always hear his old beat up truck with a loud muffler outside when he arrived. Often when my dad was late or if he slept in, my grandpa would get out of the truck and knock loudly on their bedroom window to get him up and going. Well when I was 3 years old, my Grandpa Keller died. Several weeks or a month after that, my mom and dad were woken up in those same early morning hours one spring or summer night. What woke my dad was what he says sounded like grandpa’s loud truck. All of a sudden there were loud bangs on the bedroom window, followed by the sound of the loud truck taking off down the road. My mom says she definitely remembers hearing the banging on the window and feeling shocked or stunned. Dad threw on some pants and took off out the front door to see who was there. No one was there. And he claims that even though you could still hear the truck taking off down the road, there were no lights and no truck to be seen.

I don’t have many memories from this time, and I definitely don’t remember this event, but I love to hear my dad recalling it.

Bill Maher and Near Death Experiences (Big Séance)

Bill Maher and Near Death Experiences…

In the last couple of weeks my mind has been on the topic of Near Death Experiences (NDEs) and Departing Visions (or Deathbed Visions). A Near Death Experience is where a person has a spectacular (in most cases) and very real, heavenly experience where they leave their body and all of their earthly pain and troubles. They often hover above their physical bodies (many times in a hospital or surgical setting). Most report a bright light or a tunnel of light, sometimes a bridge, and greeting a familiar face or family member on the other side. They’re told it’s not their time yet… and then they’re abruptly pulled back to their physical body, retaining the memory of the whole experience. A Departing Vision is often witnessed when a person is close to death (usually within hours). Perhaps they start speaking to a long dead relative, and perhaps they are annoyed that you can’t see them and don’t acknowledge the visit. Many statements uttered by people experiencing these visions lead witnesses to believe that these unseen visitors are there to comfort the dying or even to help them cross over. Both of these phenomena are often explained away by scientists or skeptics as a kind of hallucination caused by lack of oxygen to the “dying brain”.

I’ve been reading Heavenly Hugs: Comfort, Support, and Hope From the Afterlife by Carla Wills-Brandon, PhD. I have never experienced an NDE or a Departing Vision, but like many people, I’ve heard stories from family members who were present and saw or heard things when they were at the bedside of a dying loved one. I plan on sharing one of those stories soon, perhaps when I finish the book.

But what I wanted to share with you is something I saw just this last weekend. This is a clip from the most recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. I can’t pretend or cover up the fact that I’m a proud liberal and LOVE Bill Maher. However, I was disappointed and maybe thrown off a bit by how the topic of NDEs were laughed at and dismissed by most of the panel. Maybe I’m just such a paranerd that I am losing touch with the rest of the world. Is this really how the common person views it? And if so… what must they think of my blog?! 🙂

Deathbed Visions…

Carla Wills-Brandon

Carla Wills-Brandon

Today I listened to an interview of the author, Carla Wills-Brandon, regarding her expertise in the area of deathbed or departing visions. This is when the dying begin seeing or communicating with spirits, entities, or passed loved ones that the living can’t see (in most cases). These very real visions have been known to comfort the dying, and in some cases it is an invitation for them to go ahead and cross over. This specific topic doesn’t always hold my attention, but I thought the author was fascinating. What makes her more interesting is that she is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She is the author of twelve books, but several of them are related to deathbed visions and/or the afterlife. She had great energy and seemed to really know her stuff. I could have listened to her speak all day and I plan on grabbing at least one of her books. You can find more information about Carla in the related article below.

I’m curious… do my readers have any experiences with deathbed visions? Did the dying feel reassured or comforted by the visit? Were you aware of just who was joining or assisting them? I feel we can probably learn a lot from them. Some believe they are merely hallucinations. What are your thoughts?

I’d love to share an experience, if I had one… Please share yours! 🙂

Holiday Spirits…

There’ll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories
of Christmases long, long ago.

Ever hear those lyrics to Andy Williams’ It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and wonder just what those scary ghost stories were all about? Many would probably think this was a tradition more fitting for spooky Halloween festivities. I always assumed it was a long-lost tradition, but after one of my recent reads, I wasn’t surprised when I discovered it dates back to Victorian days. Oh how I would love to jump into a time machine!

Spirit Photographer William H. Mumler supposedly took this famous photograph, purportedly showing Mary Todd Lincoln with the ghost of her husband, Abraham Lincoln. (From Wikipedia)

Spirit Photographer William H. Mumler supposedly took this famous photograph, “purportedly showing Mary Todd Lincoln with the ghost of her husband, Abraham Lincoln”. (From Wikipedia)

Well the lyrics to this song got me thinking of something else in the last few days. Even though I’ve always believed we have special spirits with us (spirit guides, guardian angels, etc.) every moment of our lives, I also believe that there may be other important or meaningful times of the year, such as holidays, when our passed loved ones and other spirits come to check in on us. I think the gathering of families, heightened emotions, reliving past memories, and telling stories of loved ones play a big role in this.

If you’re a regular reader here, you know that I’ve recently begun doing some experimenting with the Ouija board. Not at parties, not for silliness, no alcohol involved, just research. A few weeks ago, a few members of my family (who are also members of my paranormal investigation team) and I had a quiet Ouija session late  on Thanksgiving night. Nothing much to report, but I hoped that a holiday would be a good time to achieve some good spirit communication. I’d planned on trying it again over Christmas, but the timing and atmosphere just didn’t seem right. I plan on having a few sessions here at home this week as I’m still on my holiday break. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Does anyone have a story you’re willing to share relating to this topic?

Telephone Calls from the Dead…

Have you received a phone call from the dead? Have you heard stories from someone else who has? If you did, was there an actual conversation? When did you realize you were speaking to a dead person? Was it before or after the conversation? Was anyone else there to witness it? Were you asleep when the phone rang? Can you say for sure that you actually heard the phone ring? Can the phone company trace or provide a record of the call? And maybe you missed the call. Was there a voice mail? Did the phone call serve as some kind of warning of an emergency? Did the experience fall on the anniversary of a specific event? Just think of the research that would be involved with documenting and proving (or not) that this phenomena is real and exists. Just like EVP and other forms of spirit communication, it is next to impossible to plan and analyze these phone calls in laboratory conditions. But don’t worry. Callum “Cal” Cooper (currently pursuing doctoral research in psychology and parapsychology at the University of Northampton in the UK) did all of the work for you. But there’s more work to do and something tells me he’s not done.

From the back of the book and the author’s website:

There are potentially hundreds of people who have experienced bizarre events of Telephone Calls from the Dead, and much like ghosts, and any other parapsychological phenomena, they appear to be highly common. Once all explanations have been considered, psychological and physical, are we genuinely faced with the reality of contact with the dead and evidence for survival?

This question has been asked before, and was investigated back in 1979, in a book entitled Phone Calls from the Dead, written by D. Scott Rogo and Raymond Bayless. For many years, this subject has remained dormant, until now.

Author, Cal Cooper
Photo from www.calcooper.com

I really enjoyed reading and learning about the past research that Cooper covers in the book. Several times I’ve passed up the opportunity to read the book by Rogo and Bayless. But since Cooper takes over where Rogo and Bayless left off, I really feel like I got two books in one. Like many of my books, this will be one that I will stick on the shelf and probably refer to often.

If you’ve heard Cal speak, you know he has some interesting things to say. As I’ve mentioned before, he seems young, hip, and handsome, and I can’t help but wonder and get excited for what he’ll bring to the future of parapsychology.
