Just one of many creepy promo posters for American Horror Story: Coven.
Well tonight was a big night for a lot of paranerdal folks. Not only did we get to see the mid-season premier of Ghost Hunters (in their 9th season), but a growing audience of fans got to see the much-anticipated premier of American Horror Story: Coven. I wanted to leave you with just a few of my thoughts on these wicked witches before heading to bed for another insane day of work.
I’ve been looking forward to this season since the first rumors of a witch plot began to spread. Endless articles and reviews have been written in anticipation of the series, but other than watching all of the promos as they were released, due to work and being busy I hadn’t really read too much about it. It wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be, but that’s not a bad thing. I was pleasantly surprised… and I think I’m going to LOVE it! Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, and Frances Conroy are simply going to rock my world! No pressure, ladies!
SPOILER ALERT (if you haven’t seen episode one yet.)
Even after watching the first half of the episode, with all of the slavery and torture, and even after seeing the famous LaLaurie Mansion (well known to most paranerdal folks) and knowing much of its history, it took me several minutes to begin to put two and two together. Duh! The LaLaurie Mansion and the real life Madame Delphine LaLaurie will apparently play a major part in the story this season. Maybe this is old news by now, but I certainly wasn’t expecting it, and it is why I’m even more excited about the rest of the season.
And how about some of those hilarious lines?! Someone is getting paid well. “Don’t make me drop a house on you.” HAAA! It was something like that. Keep ’em coming, Ryan Murphy.
My only thumbs down as of now is the very low-budget power that the newest witch pupil has over the boys. Maybe I’m old and no fun, but I’m hoping this doesn’t end up playing a major part in the rest of the season, because it could potentially ruin it for me. It just seems cheap and reeks of Cinemax to me. Am I alone? Maybe it’ll grow on me.

I watched and loved it. I did read somewhere that Bates was playing LaLaurie. That got me excited since it was on our ghost tour stop when I was down there in April.

Oooooh I’m jealous. Yeah I’m really excited about her character. I think I was either a witch in a past life or just really want to be one. 😉

Well.. For me, this show has always just been fun. It’s never accurate, always goes to far, and never hesitates to kick me in the butt. (I sooo cleaned that up.) I just sit there for an hour, mouth kinda gaping open, wondering just what the heck is gonna come next. If they wanna add a witch whose power is the ability to polish silver, I’m sure it will eventually find a way to shock me and make me say “no way” yet again. They can do no wrong because I’m hooked before the opening credits are finished. Love it!!!

I can’t WAIT to see the silver polishing witch!! I think you should e-mail Murphy and suggest it. 🙂 But yeah, I agree with you. I can’t wait for the rest of the season. I can’t believe they already know what next season is going to be… and we’re apparently going to know as they are going to tell us or drop hints in the last shot of the season finale.

I thought I heard a while ago that season 3 was the last season??? Guess that changed.

Recent interviews and articles have discussed a fourth season. Guess that means they’re already renewed. Isn’t that crazy?

I lived in New Orleans, in the Marigny before moving here 2 years ago, they kinda get things off with LaLaurie, but I will say I used to walk by that house every day … and I would cross the street, ut gave me the heebie jeebies. The Ax man they are amazingly accurate.

I’ve never been. It’s on my list, though. This is one of those houses I read about a lot time ago and forgot about it. Then it all came back when I started watching this season. Fascinating. It’s helping tourism in New Orleans, I’m sure.
